Contract Superintelligence: the timeline
The dated record of Contract Superintelligence, from the first day of work to today. New entries are added as they happen, with the date.
As of October 2026.
- 2001 Jim Vanderpool opens Vanderpool Law in Franklin, Tennessee. From the start, he makes a practice of getting the closing numbers in front of his clients as early as he can, by hand.
- September 1, 2017 Work on Contract Superintelligence begins. Vanderpool, a lawyer with no programming background, sets out to teach a computer to read a real estate contract.
- April 2018 The first instant settlement statement produced with no human input: a signed contract in, a settlement statement out.
- 2018 to 2026 Contract after contract goes through it. A person reads every statement before it goes out.
- 2026 Contract Superintelligence runs inside ClosingStart, the company Vanderpool founded around it. It produces the instant settlement statement with every figure traced to the page of the contract it came from, and answers a buyer's or seller's questions from the contract alone.
- October 2026 Jim Vanderpool introduces Contract Superintelligence in public for the first time. Jim Vanderpool, a practicing Tennessee attorney and the founder of ClosingStart, is the inventor of Contract Superintelligence, which he started working on in 2017.
